Preservation Month

Moulton Museum is featuring Nellie Gail Moulton at the Muck. Nellie’s collection showcases her en plein air paintings, sketches, and ephemera. This exhibit was curated by 70 Degrees and Lisa Berman Art Agency.

As the past president of the Laguna Art Association, Nellie Gail Moulton led the community in arts and education. Nellie oversaw Moulton Ranch from 1938-1950 and pioneered a new era. See this collection from April 6 – May 26, 2023.

Moulton Museum is honored to feature Nellie Gail Moulton at the Soka University Founders Hall Art Gallery. Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, May 18th, 2023 which is international museum day.

The San Juan Cultural Heritage Commission and Docent Society will host a celebration to coincide with the monthlong designation on May 6 at the Blas Aguilar Adobe Museum on El Camino Real and along Los Rios Street. Docents will give informational tours of the area’s long-standing adobes, including the Montanez Adobe.

Historic District Tours are back! Join Crystal Cove Conservancy for a guided tour of the Crystal Cove State Park Historic District! During this hour and a half walking tour, you will have a chance to explore the history of the Crystal Cove Cottages, hear stories and traditions of those who used to live here, and learn about the process of the cottages’ historic restoration! No registration is required.

When: Select Saturdays from 2:30-4:00 PM

Where to Meet: Education Commons in the Historic District

What to Bring: Sunscreen, a mask or face covering (optional), and closed toed shoes.

Parking: Please park in the Los Trancos Parking Lot. There will be a $15 Day Use fee per vehicle; free with State Parks annual pass.

Tour will be cancelled in the event of rainy weather.

April 30-May 31: Coronado Historical Association has scheduled events throughout the month, including among others, a Historic Home Tour, and their annual Preservation Symposium.”
May1-31: Petaluma has a series of Preservation Month events taking place throughout May.
May 6: Pasadena Heritage is offering a Playhouse District Walking Tour of the city’s historic urban core and arts district.
May 6: Santa Monica Conservancy is leading the Downtown Walking Tour of Santa Monica’s architecture, history, and culture.
May 9: Santa Barbara City Council will present a Preservation Month Proclamation at their meeting, and recognize the city’s new African American/Black Historic Context Statement.
May 25: Oakland Heritage Alliance is hosting an in-person lecture, “Oakland Geology and Oakland History” at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland.

It was an honor to participate as a judge for the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Young Kim, Member of Congress, 40th District. Congratulations to all the high school students who submitted their work to be juried.
